7 Ways to Easily Motivate Employees

In my many years of speaking before CEO groups worldwide, I’ve noticed why some employers seem to motivate their employees to much greater levels of success than others do. As a people skills speaker and, from the experiences I’ve had with these leaders, I’ve come up with a few simple ways to easily motivate employees.

Some employers think that, if they throw enough money at a situation, it would certainly motivate people to perform better. I found that the main reason people leave companies voluntarily is not money. It’s the fact that people need to feel important. Dale Carnegie, in the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” said that people don’t want to feel important. They need to feel important.

We make them feel important by listening to them intently, by asking a lot of questions, letting them come up with ideas, and by recognizing them in front otime-to-listen-clockf others for their achievements. Keep in mind that people will fight for their own ideas.

The person who controls a conversation is not the one who’s talking. It’s the one who is asking the questions. God gave us two ears and one mouth. Maybe we should listen twice as much as we talk.

And when people talk to you, take notes. Carnegie said that the greatest honor we pay anyone is RAPT attention. Complete, total attention. And, with our modern technologies, how little of that is there these days. Most people are too busy texting.

When an employee is making a point that seems important to them, grab a notepad and take notes. Don’t take notes electronically. They can’t tell if you’re actually taking notes or checking your email. When you’re taking notes in writing, on a pad, there is no question that you’re paying attention. In doing so, you’re making them feel important.

If your employee’s suggestion is not the most productive for the situation, you can make them feel important by not downplaying the idea. Simply ask more questions until you get the answer you believe would be most productive.

Another way to motivate employees is to get copies of the book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” for all employees and simply ask them to keep the books on their desks. Tell them there is no need to read the books. What do people do when they’re told not to do something? They’ll do it. And your company will benefit greatly!

How a Motivational Attitude Breeds Success

Many people focus on their problems and are generally negative in their nature. They don’t mean to, but it seems to happen to people without them even knowing it. Learn how a motivational attitude breeds success. Positivity isn’t just a personality trait because it can affect your body, health, and way of life. It can also hold you back from achieving your goals and becoming truly happy and successful.

Positivity Attracts the Positive

While you may think it’s an optimist’s catch phrase, it does work. If you remain positive as much as you can, good things will happen. When bad things do happen to positive people, they write it off as something that is out of their control. This allows them to remain optimistic because they don’t lose that positivity due to something that is out of their control. You’ll find that being positive helps you cope with problems and makes it easier to shut out worries and challenges. Those who are happy and optimistic tend to succeed more than those who don’t.

Good Health

Many people believe that they could lose a few pounds or that they should change their diet and eat healthier. A motivational attitude breeds success when you are trying to better your health. Once your health starts to improve you start to find it even easier to stay positive. Those who are happier tend to be healthier. They don’t overeat because they are stressed and sleep well through the night. They have fewer headaches, anxiety attacks, and sleeping disorders.

Creativity and Respect

When you have a motivational attitude that tells you anything is possible, you’re likely to be more creative when problem-solving and generating ideas. Likewise, people will respect you more because you offer help and come up with things that they never thought about. Your positivity can be infectious to others, creating a well-rounded team at work. Thus, motivation can also help build lasting relationships at work.

Techniques To Help You With Positive Thinking So You Can STD (Seize The Day)

It doesn’t seem to matter who you are or what you do, you likely suit up and show up. Those long hours you put in at work, changing orders, modifying things, and taking emergency calls will help the company, but it can also help you build your professional life in a way that ensures you seize the day, every day. While the acronym STD may seem to have negative connotations, it can mean different things to different people.

The Goal

Your objective is to learn how to seize that particular moment and go above and beyond, whether you’re dealing with a customer and their expectations of you, figuring out how to be more profitable, or trying to determine what can be done to build momentum for a new product.

How To Do It

The first thing to do is have a plan to help you think positively. You need to be mentally prepared before you can physically tackle the task. Many people have a particular way of doing things because it makes them feel better and ultimately leads them to think positive at all times. If you enjoy taking a particular route to work, then do it every day. If you like to get to work early so you have plenty of time to get your coffee and talk to coworkers, make sure to leave enough time to do so. These small things will help to ensure that you are on the road to positive thinking before you even truly start the work day. Starting your day by recognizing the things in your life you are grateful for is another great way to start the day on a positive note.

CNN

You may be wondering how the cable television news network pertains to positive thinking. While CNN as the television channel doesn’t, the acronym, constantly negative news, does. The goal of almost every news station is to find the most gruesome and horrific stories and report about them. Why? Because they sell. People tune into the channel to hear what horrors others have done and will pick up newspapers for the same reason.

Research

Research has proven that the average person has 60,000 thoughts go through their head each day. Of those 60,000, about 45,000 are negative. That means that on any given day, your traditional thought processes leave you feeling negative, which also leads to CNN (constantly negative news). You’re giving it off and getting it back.

Other Tips

Whenever you think of something negative, counteract it with something positive. If possible, create a “thankful for” list and refer to it each time you think something negative.

Learning How to Stay Happy with A PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)

Did you know that the average person has about 45,000 negative thoughts each day or about 80 percent of all your thoughts? Most of your thoughts are stressful or unpleasant, and many people find that their brains work like a news channel, only reporting on the bad things with just a little bit of good, so you don’t get too depressed. Being aware of how much negativity is in your life is the first step in learning how to stay positive and happy.

How It Happens

Most people think negatively when they focus on the future or the past. The past is difficult because it’s already happened and you can do nothing to change it. Therefore, you should only learn from the past and not dwell on it. Too much dwelling on the past can negatively impact your performance today. The future can cause negativity because of all the unknowns, such as having enough money for next month to pay bills or where you’ll be in your career in five years. Staying happy with a positive mental attitude is important to your mental health and future success

Creating A Positive Mental Attitude

PMA doesn’t have to be impossible, even though it can seem like it sometimes. All you have to do is create awareness of your negative thoughts, break your spell and fill in the blanks.

Awareness

Raise-Awareness-Text

Being aware of when you have a negative thought is the first step, albeit the most difficult. Some people do it without being aware, so it’s a matter of being more in tune with yourself. Try wearing a rubber band on your wrist and pulling it every time you have a terrible thought. You can also wear it as a reminder to focus on your feelings and see which ones are harmful. If you aren’t sure why you’re having that thought, ask yourself what’s going on in your life and how you can change it.

Breaking Your Spell

After you’ve spent a few days noticing your feelings and thoughts, you can start doing something about them. If you find you always have bad thoughts at a store or in a particular place, you may need to avoid that place for a while if possible. If it’s not feasible (such as when you walk into work), you may need to tell yourself that you like your job and coworkers or something similar. Whenever you have a negative thought, follow it up with a positive one, which can help your mental attitude. Over time, staying happy with a positive mental attitude will become a habit that will improve every aspect of your life.

5-Step-Process

5 Steps To Improve Your Attitude

It’s possible to retrain your brain to improve your attitude, though it will take some time and it won’t happen overnight. While there are many success stories out there and many people telling you what to do and how to do it, a few simple steps are all you need, though you’ll have to be diligent about working on them and actually putting them to use. Work on these 5 steps to improve your attitude and you will see results.

1. Believe In Yourselfbelieve-in-yourself

The first step is to tell yourself and believe that you can change and to believe that you actually can. Without fully believing in yourself you will not succeed.  If you start out believing negative things about yourself, you will always lack the positive self-confidence you need to succeed, so believe in yourself first.

2. Go Elsewhere

If you find yourself stressed out, it’s easier to blow things out of proportion and lose sight of what truly matters. You don’t need to raise your blood pressure or see spots before your eyes because you were cut off on the highway. Whenever possible, get yourself into a new environment to change your perspective. If you can’t break away from work or driving, consider meditation to help you go somewhere else inside your head.

3. Reenergize/Refuel

re-fuelBeing hungry or tired (or worse, both) can be highly damaging to your thought process. Your brain will interpret a lack of sleep as threats to the central nervous system, which clouds judgment. Likewise, your brain can sense a threat if you are too hungry. Store up energy that can be used to complete current projects and help you be more focused to start something new.

4. Identify Positive/Negative

It’s great to say you should always think positively, but that rarely happens. Instead, you may decide to identify both the positive and negative feelings you have. Make a list and then rate them as positive or negative, and then try to come up with more positives than negatives.

5. Reduce Stress

Venting is an excellent way to improve your attitude quickly and can be an outlet for anger and stress. Learning how to meditate and how to breathe deeply during times of high-stress can help to improve your attitude. Try using mindfulness to reduce stress.
