Is Your Motivational Glass Half Empty or Half Full? How Your Mindset Affects Your Reality

Adopting a Positive Mindset

You’ve probably heard of this common expression before. While the half-empty, half-full comparison is usually focused on your mindset, the way your mind thinks about it can be highly motivational, as well. A big part of what we get done in our lives has a lot to do with how we frame our attitudes.

For example, if you tend to be a pessimist, you probably think of all the negative things that can happen instead of what could go right. You may procrastinate on your tasks because you think it won’t amount to much. This kind of thinking is detrimental to productivity because it can prevent you from starting new projects before they even get off the ground.

On the flip side, if you always think of the glass as being half-full, you’re an optimist. Optimists start off on the right foot because the simple act of believing in yourself to make positive changes is a great positive mindset to adopt, even if you aren’t quite sure where to start. Changing your mindset can have a profound impact on whether your motivational glass is half empty or half full. Keep the following 4 concepts in mind when thinking about your mindset and how it can affect your reality:

Power and Confidence

Most people lack the confidence to try new things, and all the motivation in the world (such as from peers or family members) may not be enough to initially to take that jump. Whether you’re focused on a new career, starting a family, or being the top salesperson, you have to be confident in your own abilities to succeed. Believing in yourself goes a long way in all aspects of life. Building a sense of confidence in your capabilities, trying new things, and accomplishing tasks will help you feel powerful.

Don’t Sell Yourself Short

Believe that what you say has merit, what you think is right,fine-piece-of-china and what you want is possible. Of course, you’re not always going to be right and should also show humility when necessary, but don’t let self-doubt stop and the fear of failure stop you from standing up for what you believe is right.

Motivation as a Success Factor

It takes time to create a plan that will work for you. Having a clear plan will not only motivate you to get things done, but it can also help you to get the ball rolling smoothly on your goals.

While you shouldn’t take on responsibilities or roles you’re not qualified to do, but the right mindset can help you to take care of challenging tasks. Pushing through discomfort or as the old saying goes, “faking it, until you make it,” can help you get through the discord until you notice minute changes that will, over time, build into accomplishments.
