Is Your Motivational Glass Half Empty or Half Full? How Your Mindset Affects Your Reality

Adopting a Positive Mindset

You’ve probably heard of this common expression before. While the half-empty, half-full comparison is usually focused on your mindset, the way your mind thinks about it can be highly motivational, as well. A big part of what we get done in our lives has a lot to do with how we frame our attitudes.

For example, if you tend to be a pessimist, you probably think of all the negative things that can happen instead of what could go right. You may procrastinate on your tasks because you think it won’t amount to much. This kind of thinking is detrimental to productivity because it can prevent you from starting new projects before they even get off the ground.

On the flip side, if you always think of the glass as being half-full, you’re an optimist. Optimists start off on the right foot because the simple act of believing in yourself to make positive changes is a great positive mindset to adopt, even if you aren’t quite sure where to start. Changing your mindset can have a profound impact on whether your motivational glass is half empty or half full. Keep the following 4 concepts in mind when thinking about your mindset and how it can affect your reality:

Power and Confidence

Most people lack the confidence to try new things, and all the motivation in the world (such as from peers or family members) may not be enough to initially to take that jump. Whether you’re focused on a new career, starting a family, or being the top salesperson, you have to be confident in your own abilities to succeed. Believing in yourself goes a long way in all aspects of life. Building a sense of confidence in your capabilities, trying new things, and accomplishing tasks will help you feel powerful.

Don’t Sell Yourself Short

Believe that what you say has merit, what you think is right,fine-piece-of-china and what you want is possible. Of course, you’re not always going to be right and should also show humility when necessary, but don’t let self-doubt stop and the fear of failure stop you from standing up for what you believe is right.

Motivation as a Success Factor

It takes time to create a plan that will work for you. Having a clear plan will not only motivate you to get things done, but it can also help you to get the ball rolling smoothly on your goals.

Fake it Until You Make It

While you shouldn’t take on responsibilities or roles you’re not qualified to do, but the right mindset can help you to take care of challenging tasks. Pushing through discomfort or as the old saying goes, “faking it, until you make it,” can help you get through the discord until you notice minute changes that will, over time, build into accomplishments.

Learn Secrets to Overcome Negativity and Boost Your Levels of Motivation

It is common for people to hit a negative slump. Learn 3 secrets to overcome negativity and boost your motivational levels. The key is to keep from letting the negativity take over your life. When life seems like it is a constant up-hill battle, giving up may seem like the only solution. In reality, you can take control of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. This includes, negative habits that have become second nature. You may not even realize you have negative habits until you examine your life and thought process.

Change Your Mindset

  1. Understand and Identify Negative Habits and Emotions

Before you can do anything about a negative habit or emotion you must be able to identify them. They can be behaviors that are engaged in every day. Negative habits and behavior can damage careers and personal lives. Such habits include being late to engagements and meetings, gossiping, being defensive, engaging in personal sabotage, seeking too much attention, making rash choices, resisting change, and being a perfectionist. Some of these habits can be good given the context in which they are performed. Being aware of these habits requires being aware of your cognitive script, otherwise known as the automatic thoughts that enter your brain during many different types of situations. An unconscious thought is ingrained through past experiences, so it can be difficult to catch yourself when engaging in a deeply rooted behavior. Breaking negative habits and curtailing negative emotions takes time. It can take up to two months to ‘re-train’ your brain to overcome negative emotions, and change all depends on the behavior of the person.

  1. Become Conscious and Create a Plan

When a conscious plan is created, it can get you started in overcoming negative emotions and boost your motivation. Saying that you are going to change a particular bad habit is not enough. A concrete plan is needed in order to start changing negative habits. Set personal goals for yourself and review your progress often while working on the worst habits first. Your plan should include milestones and prompts to help remind yourself what you are trying to achieve. Keeping an action program or to-do list as a constant reminder of what you wish to achieve is a good start.

  1. Develop Self-Awareness and Self-Discipline

In order to fully change negative emotions and eventually habits you must become self-vigilant. Watch yourself for back-sliding and remind yourself of the reasons you wish to break a negative habit or cycle and the long term benefits of breaking that habit. This takes self-discipline, willpower, self-awareness, and honesty. Be persistent and firm with yourself so you can change the way you view life and become a happier person.
